Montserrat, the abbey in the sky

I surely haven’t seen anything like the mountain Montserrat before. The mountain ridge has numerous slightly rounded peaks and looks like something out of the cartoon “The Flintstones”. One of its many peaks is named “Gods finger” and it surely resembles an index finger sticking out from the mountain. Another peculiar thing with this mountain is that there is a whole village up there in the midst of the mountain which holds a number of large buildings, among them an abbey and a cathedral and you can find several gift shops, restaurants, and cafés. There are multiple ways to get up there: you can follow one of the signposted walking trails, you can drive there by car or go there by bus, or you can take the railway that climbs straight up the mountain from the village Monistrol de Montserrat.
