Bullfighting, a tradition very much alive

Bullfighting events are not for the fainthearted as they always imply the certain death of several bulls, usually six, in a matter of hours and contain a number of violent and bloody rituals. One could think that this kind of spectacle should belong to the past but instead it is an obvious and widely accepted part of the Spanish culture, as obvious as flamenco, sangria, paella, and tapas. Everybody goes to the bull ring to see the fights even the small children, all dressed up. There are a few exceptions though, bullfighting was banned 2012 in the autonomous region of Cataluña and in the Canary Islands as early as 1991, but it has never really been questioned in any of the other Spanish regions.
